Beckley, West Virginia

Beckly is one of the largest towns in Southern West Virginia which has a history dating back to the Civil War. The town gets its name from Brigadere General Alfred Beckley who named the town after his father. A young Rutherford B. Hayes described this region as; " a rugged mountain region, with large rushing rivers of pure clear water and full of the grandest scenery I have ever beheld" during his tenure in the Civil War. One visit to Grandview State Park will confirm Hayes' description.

Nearby attractions are Grandview State Park, Flat Top Mountain & Ski Resort and Tamarack, a uniquely designed arts and crafts center featuring the work of local artisans in areas such as woodworking, clothing, literature, history, drama and food. Just down the road a ways is Fayetteville, home of the world-famous New River Gorge Bridge
